LONDON and NORCROSS, Ga., June 16—SurgiLance™ has just announced that it has been awarded a three-year contract to supply its One-Step Safety Lancets to the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS) under the national framework agreement.
The contract period runs from April 2004 to March 2007 and establishes SurgiLance as a significant player within the U.K.'s safety lancet market.
Stephen Yi , SurgiLance's Vice President in Europe, said, "This is a big breakthrough for SurgiLance, and it puts the One-Step firmly on the U.K. map."
The NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA), who awarded the contract, is an executive agency of the U.K.'s Department of Health. The agency contracts on a national basis for products and services that are vital to the NHS as a whole. NHS PASA is progressively working to spread information regarding sharps and needlestick injury prevention in cooperation with relevant and interested organizations.
Among its many roles, the NHS PASA negotiates national contracts on behalf of the NHS in England. In this capacity, it works with approximately 400 NHS trusts. It manages hundreds of purchasing contracts which account for a huge proportion of the millions spent by the NHS on purchasing goods and services in the health service.
SurgiLance's One-Step line of safety lancets is now available to all NHS hospitals as an approved solution for preventing needlestick injuries suffered by NHS healthcare workers and patients.
"We are naturally very excited and thankful for this wonderful opportunity to become an approved supplier to the NHS PASA," said Yi.
