TAMPA, Fla., and NORCROSS, Ga., Oct. 14—Universal Home Health & Industrial Supplies, Inc. of Tampa, Florida—working in alliance with Georgia-based SurgiLance, Inc.—has been awarded a three-year contract by the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide all VA Hospitals in the nation with SurgiLance's One-Step Safety Lancet.
The VA estimates their annual purchase volume of safety lancets will be in the range of $550,000. The contract covers the period of December 18, 2002 through December 17, 2005.
In addition to the VA, other federal agencies, including the Department of Defense and the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacies (CMOP), may also order One-Step Safety Lancets under the VA procurement award.
"SurgiLance's One-Step Safety Lancet was a major factor in our winning this contract," said Tony Smith, president of Universal Home Health. "Their One-Step Safety Lancet is attracting tremendous interest because it is a safe and easy-to-use product."
"The contract represents a significant new market segment with major growth opportunities for our company," said Mark Nicholson, SurgiLance's vice president of sales and marketing. "In addition to offering the VA an attractively priced product, our One-Step Safety Lancet responds to the needs of clinicians who want to use a product that meets the requirements of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act legislation."
